A one-day Ephesus and Pamukkale tour from Istanbul is an exciting and well-organized way to explore Turkey’s most important ancient cities, religious heritage, and natural wonders in a single day. TOUR PROGRAM
Early in the morning, around 03:30 – 04:00 AM, our team will pick you up from your centrally located hotel in Sultanahmet or Taksim and transfer you to the airport for your flight to Izmir. After self check-in with the flight details provided following your booking, you will take a domestic flight to Izmir.
Upon arrival at Izmir Airport, our local team will welcome you at the domestic arrivals exit. You will then enjoy an approximately one-hour transfer to meet your professional guide and begin this unforgettable experience.
The tour starts with a visit to the Virgin Mary House, believed to be the final residence of the Virgin Mary. The site was discovered after visions described by a German nun and later identified by Lazarist priests. Today, it is a sacred pilgrimage site for both Christians and Muslims, still cared for by Lazarist Fathers who celebrate mass daily.
Following this visit, continue to the ancient city of Ephesus, one of the most important harbor cities of the ancient world and one of the Seven Churches mentioned in the Book of Revelation. During the guided walk through this remarkably preserved archaeological site, you will see the Library of Celsus, the Temple of Hadrian, the Fountain of Trajan, and the impressive Great Theatre, which once held up to 25,000 spectators.
The tour continues with a visit to the Basilica of Saint John the Apostle, located in Selçuk and believed to be built on the burial site of St. John. Constructed by Emperor Justinian in the 6th century AD, the basilica remains one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the region despite partial destruction caused by earthquakes.
Your final stop in the Ephesus region is the Temple of Artemis, once one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, located near the ancient city of Ephesus.
You will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, followed by free time to observe and explore traditional Turkish handicrafts during the journey.
After lunch, depart for Pamukkale, a scenic drive of approximately 3 hours in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle.
Upon arrival in Pamukkale, begin the Pamukkale & Hierapolis Guided Tour. Explore the ancient city of Hierapolis, including the Ancient Theatre, Marble Street, and the Necropolis, known as one of the largest cemeteries of the ancient world. The tour concludes at the famous white travertine terraces of Pamukkale, formed by mineral-rich thermal waters.
Your guide will provide detailed information about the travertines, after which you will have free time to relax on the terraces. You may also choose to swim in the historic Cleopatra Thermal Pool (optional, entrance fee not included).
At the end of the tour, you will be transferred to the airport according to your flight schedule for your return flight to Istanbul. Upon arrival, our team will meet you at the airport and provide an approximately one-hour transfer back to your hotel.
